Complimentary Pancake Breakfast 2016

The morning of May 28, 2016, was quite overcast (temperature about 60 degrees). The weather the prior couple of days was rainy. But–as luck would have it–the rain that day didn’t start until early afternoon (after the event ended). The complimentary breakfast was served from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. About 250 people were served. The breakfast menu was: pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea, milk and juice. This was the fourth year for serving the complimentary breakfast and about the 20th year overall. The breakfast has always been served the Saturday morning prior to Memorial Day.

For several years the breakfast attendees were treated to piano music by Don Jacobson. Don is a World War II veteran (97 years old). Due to health complications, he was unable to entertain the group this year. Mark Simono (Hayward Lion Club member) provided recorded music. Mark is known in the Hayward area for his expertise as a DJ. For the last several years, Mark worked with Don in providing the entertainment for the event. Mark was also the master of ceremonies.
