Complimentary Pancake Breakfast May 23, 2015

On the morning of May 23rd, the sun was out and the air was brisk. It was a perfect day to go out to the Veterans Community Center for a complimentary breakfast sponsored by the Hayward Lions Club. Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., a crowd of about 350 people were served a breakfast consisting of: pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, milk and juice.

The last several years the people attending the complimentary breakfast were entertained by local pianist Don Jacobson. Don is a World War II veteran (age 96). He has attended national musical competitions sponsored by the Veterans Administration (by invitation only) and won two gold metals, two silver metals and blue ribbons. Don enjoys playing the “old time classics” in a rag time fashion. Don really enjoys entertaining the breakfast crowd at no charge to the Lions or the public attending the event. He has recorded three CDs that are available locally. Mark Simono brought his sound system and provided recorded music during the times Don Jacobson wasn’t playing the piano. Mark also acted as the master of ceremonies for the event.
