Head Start Children Greet A Lion

On April 9, the children enrolled in the Hayward Head Start program were treated by a visit from Lion Nancy Grothe. Nancy dressed in the Hayward Lions costume. The students reacted very positively to the reading of “The Lion and the Mouse”. Nancy made 20 cards (one for each child) with a picture of a lion head on the front and the message inside “Reading is Fun!”. Nancy also presented each student with some coloring pictures of lions. At the bottom of each coloring picture was a quote from Aesops Fable–“Don’t forget: even the smallest friend is worthwhile”.
