Bill Moebs Honored At Farewell Party

The Hayward Lions Club held a farewell party on April 21, 2016, at the Veterans Community Center in Hayward honoring Bill Moebs. Over 60 people attended the farewell party. It was quite a tribute to Bill and his wife Genevieve to see all those people gathered to express their appreciation for the more than 20 years of service they have given to the community.

Bill and his wife Genevieve moved to Hayward from Plano, IL about 20 years ago. Bill was an electrician for Caterpillar at the Aurora, IL plant. Bill continued his career as an electrician in Hayward. Very shortly after Bill moved to Hayward, he came into contact with Russ Haling a local Lions Club member. Russ talked to Bill about the merits of being a Lion. Bill became a member of the Hayward Lions Club a short time later. During the more than 20 years Bill belonged to the Hayward Lions Club, he was president, 1st vice-president, 2nd vice-president, 3rd vice-president, member of the board of directors and his most recent post was tail twister. Bill received numerous Lions awards such as: Melvin Jones (twice), Rookie of the Year, Lion of the Year and several Community Service Awards. The Melvin Jones award is one of the most prestigious awards a Lion can receive and Bill received this award twice.

Bill and Genevieve will be moving to Leland, IL (Leland is about 30 miles west of Aurora, IL). The motto of Lions International is “We Serve”. Bill lived this motto every day. Bill participated in almost all of the Lion activities over the years. You could always count on Bill being there to help. I once heard Bill express the saying “Never Go—Never Know”. That expression surely depicted the way Bill lived his life. The Hayward community will surely miss their presence.
